New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) In light of increasing challenges facing the Gandhi-Vadra families due to ongoing money laundering investigations, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is preparing for a trip to the United States next week.

He is slated to deliver a lecture and engage with faculty and students at Brown University in Rhode Island on April 21 and 22.

The head of the Congress' media and publicity division, Pawan Khera, disclosed the itinerary through a post on X.

Khera stated, “Former Congress President Mr. Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Brown University in Rhode Island, United States, on the 21st and 22nd of April. He will be giving a talk and interacting with faculty members and students.”

Additionally, Rahul Gandhi plans to meet with NRIs and members of his party’s overseas contingent.

“Before heading to Rhode Island, Mr. Gandhi will meet with members of the NRI community, as well as office bearers and members of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC),” Khera elaborated in his post.

This visit to the U.S. comes just days ahead of a special Delhi court's hearing concerning the National Herald case.

The Enforcement Directorate has submitted a prosecution complaint against senior Congress figures, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, and others in an alleged money laundering case involving the Associated Journals Limited, the publisher of the National Herald newspaper. On Tuesday (April 9), the special Delhi court set the matter for consideration on April 25.

The charge sheet identifies Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as accused numbers 1 and 2, collectively holding over 75 percent of the shares in the Congress-controlled Associated Journals Limited (AJL).

Moreover, the ED has been interrogating Robert Vadra, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s husband, concerning a money laundering case linked to a land transaction in Haryana’s Gurugram.

Congress workers and leaders have been staging nationwide protests against the ED, alleging that the central government is engaging in political vendetta.

Rahul Gandhi’s visits to the U.S. have consistently sparked significant controversy.

In September of last year, during his inaugural U.S. trip as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi ignited a major uproar. The BJP accused him of disrespecting the nation. While addressing the Indian diaspora at an event in Herndon, Virginia, he claimed that there was no religious freedom in India and highlighted a Sikh individual, stating that “the battle in India was about whether a Sikh could practice their religion in the country.”

He also criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during a gathering in Texas.

Last month, amidst the ongoing Budget session of parliament, Gandhi asserted that he was not permitted to speak in the Lok Sabha, reiterating previous claims that his microphone was turned off whenever he attempted to address significant issues in parliament.
