Chandigarh, April 16 (NationPress) The Punjab Congress organized a protest on Wednesday against the chargesheet issued by the Enforcement Directorate concerning Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald money laundering case.
Led by state unit President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, hundreds of party activists assembled at the Punjab Congress Bhawan before marching towards the ED office in Sector 9.
They chanted slogans against the Modi government while holding placards and banners.
The chargesheet also implicated Congress leaders Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey as accused.
During the event, Warring claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is feeling threatened and is attempting to fabricate a false narrative against the Gandhi family.
He noted that even PM Modi understands there is no substance in the case, which will not withstand legal examination.
The state President remarked, “PM Modi aims to misuse the ED along with a compliant media to create a perception of corruption surrounding Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.”
Warring emphasized that PM Modi has failed to uncover any wrongdoing by the Gandhi family during the decade of UPA governance, and subsequently he focused on the National Herald matter.
“Where is the money that was supposedly laundered, as PM Modi claims?” he questioned, adding, “If PM Modi thinks he can tarnish the Gandhis with his false narrative, he is sorely mistaken.”
The Ludhiana MP mocked PM Modi, suggesting he is envious of the Gandhis for their significant contributions to the country.
“Now he (PM Modi) merely seeks to tarnish their reputation,” he concluded.
On April 12, the Enforcement Directorate revealed it had initiated actions to confiscate immovable assets worth Rs 661 crore linked to the money laundering case involving Congress-controlled Associated Journals Limited (AJL). Rahul and Sonia Gandhi together hold over 75 percent of AJL's shares.
