Rajasthan Minister Announces Temporary Suspension of Commercial LPG Cylinder Supply
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 10 (NationPress) Rajasthan's Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Sumit Godara, announced on Tuesday that the international energy sector is currently experiencing turmoil due to disruptions in supply chains and escalating tensions in the Gulf region.
He pointed out that crude oil prices have surged by about 34 percent over the last month in the global market.
To mitigate any inconvenience to consumers, directives have been given to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to ensure a smooth supply.
Under the Essential Commodities Act, the government has mandated oil firms and refineries to maintain a sufficient stock of LPG cylinders for household use and to ramp up production as necessary.
In line with the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas guidelines, a temporary halt on the distribution of commercial LPG cylinders has been enacted until conditions stabilize.
The main goal of this step is to guarantee that household consumers do not encounter any shortages of cooking gas. Godara noted that India relies heavily on gas imports from various nations, including Qatar.
At this time, global supply chains are disrupted primarily due to shipping complications in the Strait of Hormuz.
Godara expressed optimism, affirming that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the nation possesses sufficient reserves of petrol and diesel, ensuring that domestic consumers will not face hardships.
He also highlighted that the Ministry of Petroleum has directed refineries to boost gas output so that normalcy can be restored swiftly.
