Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Jan 28 (NationPress) The arrival of a series of active western disturbances has led to rain and hailstorms in various districts of Rajasthan, significantly affecting daily life and causing crop damages in numerous regions.
On Tuesday, the districts impacted by this severe weather included Jaipur, Sikar, Churu, Alwar, Khairthal-Tijara, Kota, Tonk, Dausa, Baran, Sawai Madhopur, Bhilwara, and Jhalawar.
Meteorological officials reported light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, at isolated areas in eastern Rajasthan over the last 24 hours.
The maximum rainfall recorded was 26.0 mm at Manohar Thana in Jhalawar. Additionally, moderate to dense fog was noted in several areas, further complicating visibility.
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest temperature recorded in the state was 28.4 degrees Celsius in Dungarpur, while the lowest dipped to 5.7 degrees Celsius in Nagaur.
Besides hailstorms, sporadic rain was reported across other regions. This weather activity led to a significant drop in daytime temperatures in urban areas while seriously damaging standing crops in rural sectors. Essential crops such as wheat, barley, gram, and mustard suffered, raising alarm among farmers.
The Jaipur Meteorological Centre has predicted dense fog and mist for many regions in the state on January 29 and 30. A further decrease in temperatures is anticipated following the rain and hailstorm activity, which is likely to worsen the cold conditions in the upcoming days.
Rainfall in the last 24 hours included 1.4 mm in Alwar, 1.8 mm in Jaipur, 2 mm in Kota, 4 mm in Karauli, and 2 mm in Dausa. The hailstorms and rains resulted in a sharp temperature drop of 5 to 6 degrees Celsius in several districts.
The Meteorological Centre also forecasts that due to another western disturbance, light rain with thunder is likely to recur in parts of northern and eastern Rajasthan on January 31 and February 1.
Sadly, the adverse weather caused two tragic incidents involving lightning. In Deeg district’s Sikri area, a 25-year-old married woman was killed by lightning while working in the fields of Nakcha village, and her sister was injured.
In another incident, Sohni Devi, a resident of Meda village in the Shrimadhopur area of Sikar district, also lost her life after being struck by lightning. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed en route.
