Jaipur, Jan 30 (NationPress) In a significant statewide operation targeting food adulteration, the Food Safety Department of Rajasthan has executed a major crackdown under the “Pure Food – War on Adulteration” initiative, resulting in the seizure of over 43,000 litres of suspected adulterated ghee.

According to Rajasthan Food Safety Commissioner Dr. T. Shubhamangala, on Thursday, M/s Giridhar Milk Food Product, based in Shyam Vihar Colony in Machera, Jaipur, is the manufacturer of ghee marketed under the brand 'Bhog Vinayak'.

Laboratory tests on samples of the Bhog Vinayak brand ghee collected from Pratapgarh district revealed that it was unsafe for consumption.

In light of these findings and under the orders of Rajasthan Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh along with Designated Officer and Chief Medical and Health Officer (Jaipur First) Ravi Shekhawat, a food safety officer team carried out an inspection of the company.

During the inspection, it was uncovered that the company was not conducting operations from the address registered in its food license and official records, instead functioning from a different, undisclosed location, which constitutes a clear violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Additionally, officials identified that another company, Shri Shyam Milk Food Product, was also operating from the same site.

A substantial quantity of ghee was confiscated from the warehouses of both firms, including 9,065 litres of Bhog Vinayak brand ghee (in various package sizes), 17,741 litres of Haryana Cream brand ghee, and 16,617 litres of Naksh Dairy brand ghee.

All collected samples were seized immediately, amassing a total of 43,421 litres of ghee.

Further actions will be pursued under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, dependent on the results of laboratory tests.

Earlier, a sample of Bhog Vinayak ghee had been deemed unsafe by the Jaipur Central Laboratory.

In response to this report, directives were issued to promptly withdraw the product from the market statewide.

Due to the serious regulatory breaches observed, processes have commenced to revoke the firm’s food license.

Point of View

This proactive measure by the Rajasthan government underscores the critical importance of food safety regulations. Ensuring that consumers are shielded from adulterated products is paramount, and such initiatives resonate with the broader commitment to public health and consumer rights across the nation.
