Jaipur, April 12 (NationPress) Vasundhara Raje, the former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, along with BJP MP Dushyant Singh, celebrated the launch of air services from Deendayal Upadhyay Airport by taking the inaugural flight to Delhi, marking a significant milestone for Jhalawar.

The airport now officially links the region to air travel and features the third-longest runway in North India, measuring 3,120 metres in length and 60 metres in width, accommodating large aircraft like Boeing 747 Jumbo Jets.

This launch coincided with Hanuman Jayanti, a date chosen to honor Lord Hanuman.

The runway’s dimensions position it among major airports in North India, comparable to facilities in Jalandhar and Kushinagar, where such expansive runways exist.

Speaking to the media, Raje expressed her sentiments, describing the event as the realization of a dream project.

“I am thrilled to take the inaugural flight from our long-anticipated Jhalawar Airport. I extend my gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma for making this vision a reality,” she stated.

Reflecting on regional progress, Raje recalled, “When I was first elected as an MP from this area, the roads were inadequate and poorly maintained. Today, we enjoy excellent road networks, rail connectivity, and now, air travel. If there were a sea nearby, we could even envision cruise services!”

The inauguration of this airport marks a major advancement in connectivity and infrastructure for Jhalawar, paving the way for enhanced economic and tourism growth in the region, she added.

Raje originally laid the groundwork for this airport during her second term, proposing the development of an international airport and aircraft maintenance hub.

All types of aircraft were intended to utilize the maintenance hub. This led to the construction of such a large runway. However, following the change in government from BJP to Congress, the budget was reduced, causing the project to stall, according to political sources.
