Prayagraj, Jan 18 (NationPress) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Prayagraj on Saturday to take part in the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious congregations globally. The Union Minister commenced his visit with a sacred dip in the holy waters of the Triveni Sangam, where the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati converge.
Rajnath Singh is also set to perform religious rites at important locations including Akshaya Vat, Patalpuri Temple, Saraswati Kund, and the Hanuman Temple.
This year’s Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, is projected to draw millions of devotees, with the festivities continuing until February 26, 2025.
In conjunction, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will assess the current arrangements and safety protocols established to manage the significant influx of attendees.
Saturday signifies the sixth day of the Maha Kumbh, with a large turnout anticipated for the auspicious Amrit Snan. This bathing ritual is among the most vital during the event, where devotees immerse themselves in the Sangam for spiritual cleansing.
The inaugural Amrit Snan occurred on January 14, coinciding with Makar Sankranti, the second is scheduled for January 29 in observance of Mauni Amavasya, followed by the third on February 3 for Basant Panchami.
For safety during these sacred baths, a specialized unit of 220 trained divers from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been dispatched. They operate in shifts, assisted by 700 boats to ensure constant vigilance. Alongside the divers, security personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, PAC, water police, and medical teams are collaborating to ensure the event proceeds seamlessly.
To cater to the increasing number of visitors, the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) has improved accommodation facilities. A deluxe 300-bed dormitory has been established within the Maha Kumbh site to provide premium lodging for both pilgrims and tourists.
