Is Rampur's First Case of False Information in SIR Form a Cause for Concern?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Lucknow, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is currently underway throughout Uttar Pradesh, strictly following the guidelines set forth by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Amidst this ongoing process, Rampur district has reported its first case of information concealment and false information submission in an SIR form.
The issue arose when a woman allegedly filled out enumeration forms for her two sons, Aamir and Danish, who have resided abroad in Dubai and Kuwait for several years.
She also forged their signatures on these forms. The fraudulent submission was uncovered during the digitization process of the forms by the Booth Level Officer (BLO).
In light of this discovery, Rampur's District Magistrate, Ajay Kumar Dwivedi, instructed that a First Information Report (FIR) be lodged against all parties involved under applicable legal provisions.
Dwivedi emphasized that the SIR process is being conducted with seriousness and complete transparency across all assembly constituencies in Rampur.
“During the digitization of forms submitted in Part No 248 of Assembly Constituency 37 (Rampur), this case emerged,” he stated.
According to the DM, Noor Jahan, the mother of the two voters, submitted the forms while omitting the fact that they do not reside in Rampur anymore, which is a significant breach of election regulations.
As per ECI guidelines, voters can only submit enumeration forms from their usual place of residence. Providing false information, hiding facts, or maintaining duplicate entries is punishable by law.
Authorities have clarified that individuals who may have mistakenly submitted forms from two locations have the option to rollback their submissions by contacting their Booth Level Officer for corrections. However, those who knowingly commit violations will face strict legal repercussions.
In urging the voters, DM Dwivedi called on residents to provide accurate and updated information during the revision process and to refrain from making false declarations or incorrect entries to uphold the integrity and fairness of the SIR exercise.
According to data released by the Election Commission on Saturday afternoon, Uttar Pradesh, which has an electorate of 15.44 crore, has successfully distributed 99.93% of enumeration forms and digitized 94.04% of them.
