New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has recorded an unprecedented expenditure of Rs 11,810.82 crore for the financial year 2025-26. This marks a significant rise of nearly 14 percent compared to the Rs 10,409.00 crore spent in FY 2024-25, showcasing the Department's commitment to the effective utilization of funds for various welfare schemes, as stated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
“In FY 2025-26, the Department has also seen the highest-ever spending on welfare initiatives for Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes,” the statement added.
The government further highlighted that record amounts were allocated to programs aimed at Drug Demand Reduction, the welfare of Sanitation Workers, Senior Citizens, Transgender individuals, and those involved in Beggary.
This landmark spending in FY 2025-26 emphasizes the Government’s dedication to achieving social justice, empowering marginalized communities, and fostering inclusive development across the nation.
Additionally, 349 Divyang-friendly training centers nationwide provided skill training to 1,883 individuals during 2025-26.
Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar reported in Parliament last month that 2,395 Divyangjan (differently-abled individuals) received training from these centers, with 1,883 earning certifications.
Data revealed that Madhya Pradesh emerged as the leader among states, training 947 Divyangjan, out of which 761 were certified.
Minister Virendra Kumar stated that the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is facilitating skill training for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) through accredited government organizations and NGOs under the National Action Plan for Skill Development of Persons with Disabilities, aiming to enable them to secure meaningful employment and achieve self-reliance.
