New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) In an effort to tackle the rising number of road accidents and fatalities, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced on Friday that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has designated 30 GHz radio frequency for the creation of advanced vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems.
He urged members of the consultative committee from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to inform state authorities about the necessity of holding regular meetings of the Members of Parliament Road Safety Committee (MPRSC) in their districts, ensuring participation from district collectors, police, the Public Works Department (PWD), and other relevant agencies.
The meeting centered on ‘Measures for Reduction in Road Accidents and Fatalities’, highlighting a comprehensive approach to mitigate road accidents and preserve lives.
Gadkari emphasized that road safety measures are being integrated into the finalization of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).
He instructed Regional Officers and Project Directors from MoRTH/NHAI to regularly participate in MPRSC meetings and to implement appropriate road safety measures in ongoing projects.
The minister also revealed that AI-driven road safety applications would be made available to states and Union Territories, urging members to provide detailed feedback on their concerns and recommendations for further consideration.
During the meeting, the Road Safety Anthem was introduced, which has been translated into 22 regional languages.
He encouraged Members of Parliament to advocate for the performance of the Road Safety Anthem in regional languages at schools, public events, and various public venues. Gadkari also inspired all officials to persist in their efforts to develop safer road infrastructures nationwide, reiterating the Government’s dedication to saving lives on Indian roads.
Santosh Kumar Yadav, Chairman of NHAI, updated the committee on the ministry’s ongoing initiatives aimed at improving road safety and decreasing accidents on National Highways.
The committee members expressed their concerns regarding the continually high rate of road accidents and fatalities throughout the country. They also discussed critical issues such as the rectification of black spots, the expansion of specific stretches of National Highways, availability of trauma care facilities along highways, increased compensation for road accident victims, road maintenance, and collaboration with state governments concerning state highways.
