New Delhi, July 22 (NationPress) Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday criticized the Opposition for their ongoing disruptions in Parliament, claiming they are misusing taxpayers' money and intentionally hindering proceedings during the current Monsoon Session.
Rijiju urged the Opposition to engage in meaningful discussions on previously agreed-upon topics instead of causing chaos in the House.
For the second consecutive day, the Opposition raised slogans inside Parliament, this time demanding a dialogue regarding the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative in Bihar. This issue has become a contentious point between the government and the Opposition with the upcoming 2025 Assembly elections in sight.
On Monday, the Opposition called for a debate on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Subsequently, a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) established a timeline for discussing these matters in both Houses.
However, on Tuesday, Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, gathered outside Parliament to protest against the SIR.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, Rijiju stated, "All leaders from the Opposition are present here. During the BAC meeting, it was decided that there would be a discussion on Operation Sindoor, and a specific time was agreed upon. All issues cannot be addressed simultaneously. Yet, instead of cooperating, they arrived with placards and caused disruptions in the House."
"They are protesting with pillows and bringing placards, despite having previously agreed not to do so. This conduct is unacceptable. If they genuinely desired a discussion, we were prepared, so why disrupt the House?" he questioned.
He further remarked, "Who will take responsibility for this? This is a waste of taxpayers' money. We come prepared with legislative business, while the Opposition appears solely to create disturbances."
Condemning the actions of the Congress and its allies, Rijiju labeled the ongoing sloganeering as a double standard, asserting that such behavior undermines the democratic process in Parliament.
Due to the ongoing turmoil caused by Opposition MPs, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the day.
