New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) Bihar has been rocked by a wave of violent crime over the last four days. Two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) suffered severe attacks while on duty, ultimately succumbing to their injuries, and reports of assaults on law enforcement have emerged from various locations during the Holi festival. This alarming spike in violence has incited widespread anger throughout the state, with RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari accusing the NDA government in Bihar of creating an environment where criminals roam freely and operate without fear of consequences.
Tiwari stated to IANS, “Bihar under the NDA government has devolved into a sanctuary for criminals. In this so-called double-engine government, those tasked with safeguarding the public, the police, are themselves in danger. The citizens are left to rely on divine intervention for their safety. What we are witnessing is a 'Gundaraj' (rule of thugs) and an 'Aparadhi Raj' (criminal rule).”
“Bihar is engulfed in chaos. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar appears to be oblivious to the situation. The most beneficial action for Bihar would be for this government to resign. The people of Bihar are enduring the terror imposed by criminals, and now even the police are falling prey to their violence,” he added.
The catalyst for this uproar was the murder of ASI Santosh Kumar in Bihar's Munger district, marking the second killing of a police officer in cold blood. ASI Kumar had gone with his team to mediate a conflict between two families in the Nandalalpura area, but the situation escalated violently, resulting in his brutal beating by a mob, which ultimately led to his demise.
The situation worsened when an unknown assailant struck ASI Kumar with a sharp weapon, hitting him on the head. Despite being hurried to Patna for medical attention, ASI Kumar succumbed to his injuries. The head of the Mufassil police station, Chandan Kumar, confirmed the tragic passing of the officer.
This incident follows a series of similar attacks on police personnel throughout the state, raising significant concerns regarding the safety of law enforcement officials.
