Jamshedpur, Sep 4 (NationPress) The industrial center of Jharkhand, Jamshedpur, is currently grappling with a series of audacious robberies, highlighted by two significant incidents occurring within a 24-hour period.
On Thursday afternoon, a businessman was robbed of Rs 30 lakh in cash in the bustling Bistupur Gurudwara area, just one day after armed thieves targeted a jewellery store in Sonari.
Reports indicate that businessman Saket Agrawal was en route to a bank to deposit the cash when he was ambushed by the robbers.
While riding his scooter, two assailants approached him, threw red chili powder into his eyes, and snatched the bag containing the money.
Despite suffering temporary blindness, Agrawal attempted to pursue the thieves, who discharged their firearms into the air before escaping in an SUV. Fortunately, he was not injured by the gunfire.
Law enforcement quickly arrived at the scene and initiated a manhunt, reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity.
Notably, the location of the robbery is in close proximity to the residence of Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato.
This incident, occurring in broad daylight amidst one of the city's busiest areas, has instilled fear among residents and business owners alike.
Numerous traders congregated at the scene, voicing their frustration over what they perceive as a declining law-and-order situation in Jamshedpur.
Just a day prior, six armed individuals had looted Vardhman Jewellers in the Sonari police station area. The gang entered the shop disguised as customers, held the owner, Pankaj Jain, at gunpoint, and made off with jewellery worth several lakhs. When Jain resisted, he was struck on the head with a pistol, resulting in severe injuries. The robbers also fired three shots before escaping.
The occurrence of two dramatic robberies in crowded marketplaces raises critical concerns regarding public safety. As investigations proceed in both cases, anxiety and outrage persist throughout the city, with residents demanding swift and decisive measures against the perpetrators.
