Ahmedabad, April 13 (NationPress) Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, a detailed reference book chronicling the law’s development, institutional framework, and pivotal rulings was launched in Ahmedabad on Monday by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi.
The publication, named 'RTI – A Two Decade Journey', has been crafted as an in-house effort by the Gujarat Information Commission.
The unveiling occurred during an event hosted at GUJSAIL in Ahmedabad, where the Deputy Chief Minister officially presented the book in front of senior officials from the Commission and other esteemed guests.
This occasion was part of the celebrations marking two decades since the RTI Act, 2005 was enacted, which serves as a landmark law designed to enhance transparency in governance and allow citizens access to information.
In his address, Sanghavi remarked that the Right to Information framework has proven to be a powerful tool for fostering transparency and accountability within public administration.
He emphasized that the newly launched book would serve as a practical resource for government officials involved in RTI processes, as well as for researchers and citizens looking to comprehend the law and its implementation.
As per officials, the book offers a systematic overview of the RTI framework, starting from its historical context to the statutory aspects of the Act, regulations established by both Central and State governments, and crucial administrative orders relevant to its execution.
Additionally, it outlines the establishment of the Gujarat Information Commission, detailing its structure, operational methods, and processes, supported by statistical data reflecting the trends in RTI applications and resolutions.
A significant section of the book comprises a compilation of 201 crucial judgments issued by the Supreme Court, various High Courts, and diverse information commissions across India.
These rulings have been incorporated to illustrate how judicial interpretations and quasi-judicial decisions have played a role in shaping the practical application and development of the RTI framework over the past two decades.
Officials noted that this publication is designed as a comprehensive resource that consolidates the legal, administrative, and procedural elements of the Act into a single volume.
It is intended to act as both a reference guide and a knowledge repository for all stakeholders engaged in transparency and governance-related activities.
