Rukmini Vasanth files cyber complaint over AI-generated fake bikini photos
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actress Rukmini Vasanth, known for her role in Kantara Chapter-2, has filed a complaint with the cyber police after artificial intelligence-generated bikini photos and videos falsely claiming to feature her went viral on social media. The actress, speaking from Bengaluru on Saturday, 24 May, confirmed the content is entirely fabricated and warned of legal action against those responsible.
What Happened
AI-manipulated images and videos were circulated online with false claims that they depicted Rukmini Vasanth. The actress stated that she and her team identified the content and moved swiftly to address it publicly and legally.
“My team and I have come across certain AI-generated images being circulated online claiming to be me. I want to state clearly that these images are entirely fake and fabricated. The creation and circulation of such manipulated content is deeply irresponsible and a serious violation of privacy,” she said.
Legal Action Initiated
Rukmini Vasanth confirmed that both legal and cybercrime proceedings are being initiated against those involved in creating and distributing the fake content. Speaking at a private event in Bengaluru, she said she had already lodged a formal complaint with the cyber police and expressed confidence that authorities would act decisively.
“We are taking this matter seriously and initiating the necessary legal and cybercrime action against those involved in creating and spreading these images. Requesting everyone to refrain from sharing or engaging with such content,” she added.
A Wider Problem for Women
The actress was careful to frame the issue beyond her own case. “AI should be used for good purposes and not for harmful activities. Not just actresses, but many other women are also facing problems because of this. I believe the police will take action in this matter,” she said.
This comes amid a growing wave of AI-generated deepfake incidents targeting women across India, with several high-profile cases prompting calls for stronger legal safeguards. Notably, the Information Technology Act and emerging provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita are increasingly being invoked in such cases, though enforcement remains inconsistent.
Appeal to the Public
Rukmini Vasanth urged the public not to share or engage with the fabricated content on any platform. She reiterated that the viral videos do not feature her and that continued circulation could attract legal liability for those sharing the material.
With her cyber complaint now on record, the case is expected to test how swiftly Karnataka’s cyber police can trace and act against the originators of AI-generated non-consensual content targeting public figures.
