Tripura CM Manik Saha: Humanity and professionalism define police duty
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday, 18 July said that humanity, sensitivity, and professionalism are among the foremost responsibilities of police personnel, while reaffirming the state government's resolve to build a modern, technology-driven, and people-oriented police force. Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, was speaking at the passing-out parade of the 92nd batch of newly appointed Police Constables (Male) at the headquarters of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) 2nd Battalion in R.K. Nagar, Agartala.
Parade and New Recruits
A total of 469 Police Constables and one TSR Rifleman (General Duty) successfully completed their training and passed out at the ceremony. Senior officials including Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag, and Home Secretary Abhishek Singh were present alongside several civil and police officers.
Saha extended congratulations to the new recruits, noting that the people of Tripura place immense faith and high expectations in the police. He emphasised that dedication to duty earns both respect and recognition in society.
A Force with 150 Years of History
The Chief Minister recalled that Tripura Police traces its origins to the 13th century, when the erstwhile kings of Tripura established their own administrative and policing systems. The force evolved into its present organised structure in 1965, and in January 2024, Tripura Police marked its 150th anniversary at Pragya Bhavan. The force has also been honoured with the President's Colours for its role in combating extremism and terrorism over the past three decades.
Women's Participation and Empowerment
Saha highlighted the growing representation of women in the force. At a separate passing-out parade on 21 May 2026 — covering the 51st and 52nd batches of male and female constables at the KTDS Police Training Academy — 318 out of 476 constables who passed out were women. He said this trend reflects the government's commitment to women's empowerment, in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emphasis on the same.
He also noted that on 13 May last year, appointment letters were handed over to 975 young men and women selected as constables in Tripura Police through transparent recruitment.
Upcoming Recruitment and Training Focus
Saha announced that recruitment for 218 Sub-Inspectors would begin shortly, and approval has been granted for 916 more police constables to further strengthen the force. Trainees in the current batch received instruction in traffic management, law and order, jungle warfare, disaster management, and cybercrime — areas the Chief Minister said would help them discharge their duties efficiently.
He stressed that police personnel are often the first point of hope for people in distress, and that the government has attached the highest priority to ensuring the safety and security of women and children. With fresh recruitments and expanded training modules, Tripura's police modernisation push is set to deepen in the months ahead.
