Dehradun, Sep 16 (NationPress) On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a phone conversation with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to assess the situation following the devastating cloudburst in the Sahastradhara area of Dehradun's Karligaad.
During their discussion, CM Dhami informed the Prime Minister about the current realities, including ongoing rescue and relief operations. PM Modi pledged full support from the Centre, emphasizing that the Union government "stands firmly with Uttarakhand in this critical time of disaster".
Additionally, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke with the Chief Minister concerning the aftermath of the torrential rains. He promised all possible assistance from the Home Ministry, highlighting that the Centre will fully back the relief and rescue initiatives.
This communication comes in response to the disastrous cloudburst in Karligaad, which resulted in significant destruction, leaving two individuals unaccounted for. The incident, occurring late Monday night, caused substantial debris to fall, damaging two to three major hotels and numerous shops in the primary market of Sahastradhara, a popular tourist destination.
Reports of damage have also emerged from other regions of the state, including Rishikesh and Haldwani, where swollen rivers and debris have disrupted daily activities.
Expressing gratitude, CM Dhami remarked that "with the guidance and cooperation of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, relief efforts will be expedited in the state."
He noted that the administrative framework is on high alert and that rescue and relief operations are being conducted at a rapid pace.
The Chief Minister personally surveyed the rain-affected areas of Dehradun district on Tuesday, accompanied by local MLAs and senior officials who provided updates on the extent of the devastation.
All relevant departments have been activated, with teams from SDRF, NDRF, and the Public Works Department actively involved in the operations. JCB machines and other essential equipment have been deployed to clear debris and aid relief efforts.
