Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Bollywood director Vikram Bhatt and his spouse Shwetambari in relation to a fraud case involving Rs 30 crore.
The couple was apprehended at their residence in Mumbai on December 7, 2025, and subsequently taken to Rajasthan following a complaint from a doctor in Udaipur. The doctor claimed he was deceived out of significant funds by Bhatt under the guise of film production.
A Bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi ordered the immediate release of the couple and scheduled a hearing for February 19.
Previously, on January 31, the Rajasthan High Court denied bail applications from Vikram Bhatt, his wife, and another accused, stating that it was premature to grant bail as the investigation remains ongoing.
An FIR was filed on November 17 at the Bhupalpura police station in Udaipur against Vikram Bhatt and eight others by Dr Ajay Murdia, the owner of the Indira Group and Indira IVF.
The complainant alleged that Bhatt and his team solicited investments for a biopic about his wife.
Dr Murdia recounted his introduction to the project through Dinesh Kataria and a subsequent meeting with Vikram Bhatt at Vrindavan Studio, Mumbai.
Bhatt reportedly promised that an investment of Rs 7 crore could result in four films, with anticipated returns ranging from Rs 100-200 crore.
Following this, multiple transfers totaling Rs 2,45,61,400 were made to various accounts linked to Bhatt's team.
Furthermore, Indira Entertainment is accused of disbursing Rs 42,70,82,232, although the agreed production cost was only Rs 47 crore.
The complaint states that only two films have been finished and released.
The third film, 'Vishwa Virat', is said to be only 25% completed, and the fourth, 'Maharana-Ran', has yet to commence.
Bhatt stands accused of misappropriating Rs 25 crore intended for the fourth film.
The FIR also implicates Krishna Bhatt, Dinesh Kataria, Mehboob Ansari, Mudit Buttan, Gangeshwar Lal Srivastava, and Ashok Dubey as co-accused.
