New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) A 45-year-old individual reportedly took his own life by jumping onto the train tracks at Uttam Nagar East Metro Station on Tuesday, according to police reports. This incident marks the second suicide at this station within just five days.

As per an official statement from Kushal Pal Singh, DCP (Metro), authorities received notification about the event at 10:12 AM. “Information was reported from the Uttam Nagar East Metro Station controller via DD No. 14A at 1012 hrs concerning a person jumping onto the Metro track,” the officer elaborated.

Upon arrival, police found that the man had indeed jumped onto the tracks from the platform of Uttam Nagar East Metro Station. “Upon reaching the scene, it was confirmed that an individual had committed suicide by descending onto the tracks from the platform. The remains were recovered from the tracks,” the statement indicated.

The deceased, identified as Maharaj Singh, son of Handu Ram, hailed from Karoli district, Rajasthan.

He worked as a whitewasher. His body was retrieved from the tracks and subsequently sent to DDU Hospital for an autopsy.

Maharaj Singh had faced battles with depression for several years and was undergoing treatment at RML Hospital, having visited the facility just the day prior to his death. He was in Delhi to celebrate his elder brother’s daughter’s wedding. He is survived by his wife and three children: an 18-year-old daughter and two sons aged 17 and 20.

The remains have been transferred to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital for a post-mortem examination. “The body has been moved to DDU Hospital. Inquest proceedings under section 194 BNSS have been initiated regarding this matter,” the statement added.

The police have opened inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC and are examining the circumstances surrounding the event.

Previously, on Friday, a tragic event occurred when a 17-year-old boy lost his life after allegedly jumping in front of a train at the same station.
