Kolkata, Jan 23 (NationPress) Following his suspension from the party earlier this month, Trinamool Congress leader Santanu Sen, who has been a prominent voice regarding the R.G. Kar rape and murder case, has now forfeited his position on the West Bengal Medical Council.
On Thursday, the former Rajya Sabha member, Dr Santanu Sen, a medical professional and an alumnus of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, was succeeded as the state government representative in the medical council.
Sen was suspended from the Trinamool Congress on January 10 due to alleged involvement in “anti-party activities”.
Prior to this, he had also been dismissed from his role as the state spokesperson for the party. However, the Trinamool Congress did not specify the duration of Sen’s suspension nor elaborate on the meaning of “anti-party activities”.
In a brief statement to the media regarding this matter, Sen noted that since the decision was made by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the party’s highest authority, he accepted it.
He has been succeeded in the state medical council by Asim Sarkar. Reports indicate that the decision to replace Sen was made in December of the previous year, and the change has now been implemented.
Since the emergence of the R.G. Kar case, Sen has been notably outspoken within the party on this subject, particularly against the former and controversial principal of RG Kar, Sandip Ghosh. Tensions began to grow between Sen and the Trinamool Congress leadership from that point onward. Subsequently, a conflict arose between Sen and Sudipto Roy, a Trinamool Congress legislator and president of the council, whose office and nursing home were subject to raids by ED officials regarding financial irregularities tied to R.G. Kar.
Sudipto Roy was later summoned and interrogated at the ED office in Salt Lake, on the outskirts of Kolkata.
