TMC Expels Doctor-Activist Most Vocal Regarding RG Kar Incident

Kolkata, Jan 10 (NationPress) The Trinamool Congress has officially announced the suspension of a prominent doctor-member who had been notably outspoken regarding the appalling rape and murder of a junior doctor at the state-operated RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which occurred within the hospital grounds last August.
The individual suspended is Santanu Sen, a former member of the Rajya Sabha from the Trinamool Congress, who is also a medical professional and an alumnus of RG Kar Hospital.
Jayprakash Majumdar, the State Vice-President of Trinamool Congress, confirmed the suspension of Santanu Sen, stating that it resulted from his participation in anti-party activities.
However, Majumdar did not elaborate on what these anti-party activities entailed.
In response, Santanu Sen mentioned that he learned of his suspension through media reports and has not yet received any formal communication from the Trinamool Congress regarding this matter.
“I remain unaware of the specific anti-party activities that have led to my suspension. I am not being pursued by the Enforcement Directorate or the Central Bureau of Investigation,” Sen asserted.
Since the incident at RG Kar came to light, Sen has been particularly vocal within the party, especially in opposition to the former and controversial principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandip Ghosh.
The rift between Sen and the leadership of Trinamool Congress has widened since that time.
In December of the previous year, Sen was dismissed from his position as a state-government-nominated member of the West Bengal Medical Council.
Previously, he had also been taken off the party's spokesman roster.
A cold war has emerged between Sen and Sudipto Roy, a Trinamool Congress legislator and president of the council, who is also a medical practitioner in private practice and whose office and nursing home were searched by ED officials concerning financial discrepancies at RG Kar hospital.
Roy was subsequently summoned and interrogated at the ED’s office located in Salt Lake on the northern fringes of Kolkata.
