Trinamool Congress Takes Action Against Doctor-Leader Critical of RG Kar Incident

Kolkata, Jan 10 (NationPress) The Trinamool Congress declared on Friday the suspension of a doctor-leader within the party known for his vocal stance on the shocking rape and murder of a female junior doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which occurred on the hospital grounds in August of the previous year.
The individual suspended is Santanu Sen, a former Rajya Sabha member of the Trinamool Congress, who is also a medical professional and an alumnus of RG Kar Hospital.
Confirming the suspension, Jayprakash Majumdar, the State Vice-President of the Trinamool Congress, stated that the former member was suspended due to his involvement in anti-party activities.
However, Majumdar did not elaborate on the specific nature of these anti-party activities.
In response, Santanu Sen mentioned that he became aware of his suspension through media reports and has yet to receive any formal notification from the Trinamool Congress.
He stated, “I am not fully informed about what constitutes the anti-party activities that have led to my suspension. I am not under investigation by either the Enforcement Directorate or the Central Bureau of Investigation.”
Since the tragic incident at RG Kar emerged, Sen has been notably vocal within the party regarding the matter, particularly criticizing the former principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandip Ghosh.
Strains and tensions between Sen and the leadership of the Trinamool Congress have escalated since that time.
In December of last year, Sen was dismissed from his position as a state-government-nominated member of the West Bengal Medical Council.
Previously, he had also been removed from the party’s spokesperson list.
A conflict has grown between Sen and Sudipto Roy, a Trinamool Congress legislator and president of the council, who is also a private medical practitioner. Roy’s office and nursing home were raided by ED officials due to financial irregularities associated with RG Kar Hospital.
Roy has also been summoned and interrogated at the ED office located in Salt Lake, in the northern outskirts of Kolkata.
