Guwahati, March 16 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a sharp critique of the Congress party on Sunday, accusing them of mocking the Bodo peace accord which has undeniably contributed to restoring peace in the region.
Speaking at a gathering in Dotma during the concluding day of the 57th annual conference of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), Shah condemned the Congress party for their disparagement of the administration at the time the accord was signed, highlighting that they were mistaken about the peace and development it has facilitated in Bodoland.
"When we executed the Bodo Accord, Congress laughed at us," he stated, rebuking the long-standing party for their skepticism about the agreement. However, it has now ensured peace and advancement for Bodoland," HM Shah remarked.
The Union Home Minister pointed out that 82 percent of the provisions outlined in the Bodo Accord have already been implemented, with total fulfillment expected within the next two years.
He encouraged the youth of Bodo to aspire high and start preparing for the 2036 Olympics, which are scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Also present at the event were Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Pramod Boro.
The Bodo Accord was formalized in 2020.
Earlier that day, Union Home Minister Shah reported the dismantling of an international drug trafficking network by the Narcotics Control Bureau in Guwahati and Imphal, asserting that drug cartels will face no leniency.
During the operation, narcotics valued at ₹88 crore were confiscated, and four individuals were apprehended.
HM Shah posted on his X handle, "No leniency for drug cartels. Accelerating the Modi government's initiative to create a drug-free Bharat, a significant consignment of methamphetamine tablets worth ₹88 crore has been seized, and four members of the international drug cartel were arrested in Imphal and Guwahati areas.” Praising the Narcotics Control Bureau's efforts, he added, “This drug seizure exemplifies the exemplary performance of our comprehensive investigative approach. Our pursuit of drugs continues. Congratulations to the NCB team!"
