Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 13 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large crowd in Kokrajhar via a virtual link from Guwahati, as he was unable to reach the Bodoland region due to unfavorable weather conditions. The Prime Minister expressed his disappointment over not being able to visit in person, stating, “I wanted to be in Kokrajhar, but the weather had other plans, so here I am speaking to the people of Bodoland from Guwahati.”
During his address, PM Modi emphasized the remarkable transformation that Assam has undergone in the last decade, noting that the state has moved from a history of violence towards a future marked by peace and development. “Assam has experienced decades of unrest, but today it stands as a beacon of peace. Over the past 10 years, we have achieved significant progress,” he asserted.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the Kokrajhar and Bodoland areas are on track to become vital hubs for economic growth and business opportunities in the near future. He also launched a strong critique of the Indian National Congress, accusing them of failing the people of Bodoland and Assam for years.
“Bodoland has seen the betrayal of Congress. When they were in power, they merely signed agreements on paper without following through,” he stated.
Modi asserted that genuine progress in the region only commenced after the Congress was ousted from both the Central and state governments. “With the Congress out of power, the BJP's double-engine administration has been dedicated to realizing the aspirations of the populace,” he remarked.
He further accused Congress of a history of broken promises. “Congress is a factory of false promises. They never intended to fulfill any of their commitments, unlike the BJP, which strives to honor every pledge made to the people,” the Prime Minister claimed.
Recalling previous government initiatives for Bodoland, he mentioned the significant actions taken during former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's administration, including the establishment of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in 2003 and the initiation of various development projects.
Moreover, PM Modi noted that the signing of the historic Bodo Peace Accord in 2020 represented a crucial step toward achieving lasting peace in the region, with many insurgents abandoning violence to integrate into mainstream society. “Numerous former militants have laid down their arms and are now contributing positively to society,” he stated.
The Prime Minister also underscored advancements in healthcare facilities within Assam, highlighting the establishment of new medical colleges across the state.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Central government to the development of Bodoland, PM Modi expressed the BJP’s dedication to enhancing the lives of the region's residents. He accused the Congress of jeopardizing national security by supporting infiltrators.
“Congress has committed a grave sin by compromising our national security; they have always sided with infiltrators,” he warned, noting the increasing danger in Assam’s Dhubri and Goalpara districts due to infiltration.
He announced that the current government has taken significant measures to recover land occupied by infiltrators and restore the rights of the indigenous population. “We have made substantial strides to reclaim lands taken over by infiltrators, ensuring that the indigenous people of Assam regain their land rights,” PM Modi stated.
Before the upcoming Assembly elections, PM Modi appealed to voters to reject the Congress party. “I urge the citizens to hold Congress accountable in the forthcoming elections. Together, we are constructing a prosperous Assam,” he said.
During this virtual event, the Prime Minister also launched a variety of development initiatives aimed at bolstering infrastructure and economic growth throughout the Bodoland region and Assam.
