Guwahati, Jan 18 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday intensified his criticism of the Congress party, asserting that the citizens of India have decisively turned away from the opposition and its political ideologies.
During the groundbreaking ceremony for a significant elevated corridor in Assam’s Kaziranga, aimed at protecting wildlife, PM Modi remarked, “The Congress has been completely uprooted in Maharashtra after the recent municipal elections, leading to a significant defeat for the opposition. Once a dominant force in the western state, Congress has lost the electorate's confidence as it lacks a developmental agenda for the nation.”
The Prime Minister emphasized that the people's faith in the BJP has grown over the past year and a half. “Despite having governed Bihar for 30 years, the electorate chose BJP again with a substantial mandate in the recent state elections. In Kerala, the BJP has made strides in local elections, with Thiruvananthapuram now having a BJP mayor, reflecting the increased trust in our governance model,” he stated.
According to Modi, citizens seek effective governance, which the BJP is committed to providing. He explained, “Our governance model promotes development while preserving our rich traditions. We have demonstrated that economic progress and ecological preservation can coexist. The ambitious elevated corridor project, costing approximately Rs 6,000 crore, will not only safeguard wildlife but also positively influence the local economy.”
Criticizing Congress regarding rhino poaching, the Prime Minister said, “The one-horned rhinos are our nation’s invaluable asset; however, under Congress's leadership, we saw a rise in rhino poaching incidents. Upon assuming power, the BJP government vowed to eliminate rhino poaching, achieving remarkable success, with Assam recording zero cases in 2025.”
Modi also targeted Congress regarding the issue of infiltration, stating, “Congress has supported infiltrators to seize land from the indigenous population of Assam, while the BJP's double-engine government is diligently working to rid the state of these infiltrators.”
The Prime Minister asserted that the people of Bihar have rejected Congress's political agenda in the last Assembly elections, resulting in a significant defeat for the opposition. “I am confident that Congress will face a similar outcome in the forthcoming Assembly elections in Assam,” he predicted.
Notably, PM Modi performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, a grand infrastructure project valued at over Rs 6,950 crore.
This 86-km-long initiative, officially designated as the four-laning of the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of NH-715, is designed to be an environmentally sensitive national highway project. It features a 35-km elevated wildlife corridor that traverses Kaziranga National Park, along with 21 km of bypasses and 30 km of widening of the existing highway.
The project aims to enhance connectivity across the Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, and Golaghat districts while ensuring unobstructed movement of wildlife and reducing human-animal conflicts.
During the event, the Prime Minister also inaugurated two new Amrit Bharat Express trains— the Guwahati (Kamakhya)–Rohtak and Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) services—bolstering rail connectivity between the Northeast and northern India.
