Guwahati, Jan 17 (NationPress) On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a fierce critique against the Congress party, claiming that it stalled the growth and development of Assam during its time in power. Speaking to a large audience at the Sarusajai Sports Complex, PM Modi remarked: "The Congress has consistently utilized Assam as a pawn for political advantage, perpetuating unrest in the region. Various issues in Assam, especially in the Bodoland region, were intentionally kept alive by the Congress for their vote bank politics."

He further accused the opposition of obstructing the state's development by opposing crucial initiatives.

In a pointed reference to Karnataka Congress leader Priyank Kharge, he stated: "When a semiconductor plant was inaugurated in Assam, a senior Congress leader, who happens to be the son of the national party president, opposed the government's decision. This clearly reveals the Congress's true stance, which is against any progress in Assam."

PM Modi emphasized that the BJP's double-engine government has fostered significant growth and has rectified the backlog left by previous Congress administrations.

He expressed confidence that Assam is set to become a central figure in the nation's growth narrative.

Notably, PM Modi commenced his two-day visit to Assam on Saturday.

Upon his arrival at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in the evening, he was received by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

On Sunday at approximately 11 a.m., the Prime Minister will visit Kaliabor to perform the bhoomi pujan for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, a major infrastructure endeavor valued at over Rs 6,950 crore.

This 86-km-long project, formally known as the four-laning of the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of NH-715, is designed as an environmentally considerate national highway initiative.

It will feature a 35-km elevated wildlife corridor traversing Kaziranga National Park, alongside 21 km of bypasses and 30 km of widening of the current highway. The project aims to enhance connectivity across Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, and Golaghat districts while ensuring the unimpeded movement of wildlife and minimizing human-animal conflicts.

During this event, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate two new Amrit Bharat Express trains, namely the Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Rohtak and Dibrugarh-Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) services, which will bolster rail connectivity between the Northeast and northern India.

Point of View

The political discourse surrounding Assam's development is crucial. The allegations made by PM Modi against the Congress party highlight ongoing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition. While Modi emphasizes progress under the BJP, the opposition's response will be pivotal in shaping the narrative of Assam's political landscape.
