Guwahati, Dec 21 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a pointed critique of the Congress party on Sunday during the inauguration of a fertiliser plant in Assam's Namrup.

Speaking at a public gathering, PM Modi strongly criticized the opposition, claiming that the Congress party has consistently hindered the growth of Assam and the Northeast.

“Congress disrespected Assam’s legendary figure Bhupen Hazarika when the music legend was awarded the Bharat Ratna by the BJP administration. Furthermore, the Congress party opposed our initiative to establish a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Assam’s Nagaon district,” he stated.

The Prime Minister asserted that the Congress has no genuine affection or regard for the Assamese people, instead showing favoritism towards infiltrators.

“The Congress has supported the infiltrators who have altered the demographic landscape of Assam because these infiltrators serve as the opposition party's vote bank. In contrast, the BJP has always prioritized safeguarding the rights of Assam's citizens,” he remarked, emphasizing the current government’s commitment to protecting the indigenous population of the state.

Earlier, PM Modi honored the martyrs of the significant Assam Movement at the Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Guwahati, marking a profoundly emotional occasion for the state's residents.

The Prime Minister paid floral tributes and adorned the bust of Khargeswar Talukdar, the initial martyr of the six-year-long anti-foreigner struggle that commenced in 1979, commemorating the sacrifices made to uphold Assam’s identity, culture, and rights.

The Swahid Smarak Kshetra is dedicated to the 860 individuals who lost their lives during the Assam Movement. During his visit, PM Modi also explored the martyrs’ gallery, where busts of all the martyrs are displayed, paying respect to each one.

His presence at the memorial was viewed as a significant acknowledgment of Assam’s tumultuous past and the sacrifices endured by its people.

The Prime Minister also engaged in a special and motivational interaction with 25 selected students from various parts of Assam aboard the cruise vessel 'Charaideo' on the Brahmaputra River, marking a unique engagement during his two-day visit to the state.
