New Delhi, July 12 (NationPress) In a fierce rebuke, senior BJP figure and former Union Minister Shahnawaz Hussain has accused Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, of engaging in politically motivated attacks aimed at undermining the credibility of the Election Commission of India (ECI). He claims that Gandhi only praises the Commission when his party emerges victorious and questions its integrity during failures.
“When Congress secures victories in states like Karnataka, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh, or when Rahul Gandhi wins in Raebareli, he sings the praises of the Election Commission. However, when they face losses in Maharashtra, Haryana, or Delhi, the same institution becomes suspect in his view,” Hussain stated in remarks to IANS on Saturday.
Hussain further asserted that the Congress leadership is attempting to preemptively prepare for a potential electoral loss in Bihar by launching a 'smear campaign' against the Election Commission and its ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative.
“Rahul Gandhi is aware that the people of Bihar are aligned with the NDA. For the past 20 years, NDA administrations have made significant strides in Bihar. He has visited the state a few times and understands the reality on the ground—they are facing defeat, which is why they have begun their attacks on the ECI,” he declared.
The BJP spokesperson noted that even the Supreme Court has not halted the SIR initiative in Bihar, dismissing Congress's claims as unfounded. “Gandhi is subtly targeting the Election Commission, but the people of Bihar will respond decisively,” he added.
In an escalation of his critique, Hussain accused Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge of echoing the narrative propagated by Pakistan. “The global community does not buy into Pakistan’s fabricated stories, yet Congress does. This is why they have questioned the Indian Air Force’s operations in Uri and Balakot,” he expressed.
Referring to Kharge's recent statements alleging that Prime Minister Modi 'lied' about a ceasefire when US President Trump purportedly claimed 16 times that he stopped the conflict between India and Pakistan, the senior BJP leader stated, “Congress must refrain from adopting Pakistan’s rhetoric. They should unite with the nation instead of politicizing issues related to national security.”
