New Delhi, March 7 (NationPress) The Karkardooma Court on Friday approved a 15-day interim bail for Shahrukh Pathan, who is implicated in the 2020 North-east Delhi riots. Pathan is accused of wielding a gun and aiming it at a police constable amidst the unrest.

Currently incarcerated in Delhi's Tihar Jail, Pathan's interim bail was granted to allow him to care for his ailing father.

The court stipulated a personal bond of Rs 20,000 along with a surety of the same amount.

Abdullah Akhtar, who represented Pathan via video link, noted that his client has been in judicial custody since March 3, 2020, and has not previously received interim bail. Akhtar highlighted that Pathan was permitted parole to visit his sick father and adhered to all conditions set forth by the court during that time.

“On March 1, 2025, the applicant’s father was hospitalized at RK Narender Prakash Hospital due to serious health issues. The presence of the accused is critically needed during both pre and post-surgery phases for his father. Moreover, there are no male family members available to assist,” the counsel explained to the court.

Pathan faces charges in two separate cases connected to the riots, including allegations of pointing a firearm at Head Constable Deepak Dahiya and involvement in a conspiracy to murder an individual named Rohit Shukla. He was apprehended in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh after being captured on video directing a gun at Delhi Police Head Constable Deepak Dahiya during the February 2020 disturbances.

An FIR was lodged against Shahrukh Pathan based on the testimony of Head Constable Deepak Dahiya.

According to his account, he was situated on a road in Jafrabad, beneath the Metro line, where a large crowd had unlawfully assembled, shouting slogans against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The unlawful assembly was armed with stones, bottles, and firearms and began to hurl stones at the police. At that moment, an individual with a pistol approached and discharged 3-4 shots into the crowd.

When the accused was approximately 9-10 feet away from the complainant, he aimed the gun at his head and fired with the intent to kill. The complainant managed to evade the bullet by ducking, as per his statement.

Shahrukh Pathan has been charged with offenses including attempted murder, criminal force against a public servant, and possession of a dangerous weapon. Subsequently, charges of rioting and unlawful assembly were added.
