Aizawl, June 24 (NationPress) Senior IPS officer Sharad Agarwal has officially taken over as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Mizoram, as announced by officials on Tuesday.
Agarwal, an IPS officer from the 1997 batch of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, succeeds the outgoing DGP Anil Shukla, a 1996-batch officer, who has been reassigned to Delhi.
This change was formalized by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday, which also directed Shukla to relocate to Delhi, with his new posting yet to be clarified.
Before his new role, Agarwal served as the Special Commissioner of the Economic Offences Wing with the Delhi Police.
Shukla had only recently taken office in Mizoram in June 2023, following the departure of Devesh Chandra Srivastava, a 1995 batch IPS officer.
Previously, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma had recommended the appointment of David Lalrinsanga, another 1995 IPS officer, for the DGP position.
Sources indicate that Agarwal was a leading candidate for this important role.
Recognized for his exceptional investigative skills and adeptness in combating white-collar crimes, Agarwal's appointment signifies a notable change in Mizoram's law enforcement leadership, according to officials.
The outgoing DGP, Shukla, is a highly skilled and decorated officer.
His educational background includes a degree in civil engineering, a post-graduation in police management, and a master's in public policy and management.
Prior to this new assignment, Agarwal was the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
His dedication and professional integrity have earned him numerous prestigious awards, both nationally and internationally, as added by officials.
In addition to key roles in various states, he has served with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as the Inspector General on central deputation for six years from 2015 until April 2021, playing a crucial role in high-profile investigations.
Agarwal was instrumental in resolving the Pulwama terror attack case involving the CRPF, apprehending and filing charges against significant Hurriyat leaders in the terrorism financing case, and investigating the LOC Trade issue that revealed the nexus between narcotics, arms, and funding for terrorism.
He also successfully solved the explosives case linked to Antilia (the Sachin Waze case) in Mumbai.
