Shiv Sena Raises Alarm Over US Submarine Attack on Iranian Warship IRIS Dena
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 6 (NationPress) The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) has voiced serious concerns regarding the sinking of the Iranian naval ship, IRIS Dena, which took part in joint military drills with India. This incident occurred in the Indian Ocean after the vessel was struck by a torpedo from a US submarine. The party indicated that New Delhi's current silence reflects a decline in national standing under the BJP-led regime.
In an editorial featured in the party's publication, 'Saamana', the Thackeray faction highlighted the disturbing fact that the Iranian warship, which was attacked while in Visakhapatnam at India's invitation, had previously been recognized in a ceremony attended by President Droupadi Murmu. The US's action not only resulted in the loss of 100 naval personnel but also represents a grave violation of international maritime laws.
The editorial stressed that this act signifies not only a breach of international maritime conduct but also a form of intimidation on the part of the Trump administration. “This raises critical questions about the government's capability to safeguard its own borders and the safety of diplomatic guests,” it stated.
Furthermore, the editorial criticized President Trump’s actions as emblematic of mobocracy and contended that Prime Minister Modi's inaction makes India appear weak on the international platform.
“Despite this major incident, both PM Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh have remained inactive. The government has not issued even a brief protest against the US. Since the ship was in India at the government's request, the Prime Minister and Defence Minister should be held accountable for the attack,” it asserted.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena lamented that even with India's BRICS chairmanship—of which Iran is a member—the government has failed to issue a supportive statement for its ally.
The disparity between the government's 'Vishwaguru' image and its apparent inability to undertake diplomatic actions is increasingly evident, the editorial noted.
It concluded by asserting that the current leadership's passivity in response to such provocations will continue to harm India's global reputation, leaving the nation looking weak and defenseless on the world stage.
