Davanagere (Karnataka), April 6 (NationPress) - Karnataka's Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, strongly criticized the BJP on Monday, asserting that while the Congress party is campaigning on its commitment to the people and development initiatives, the BJP has resorted to personal attacks against him to win votes. He expressed optimism that the Congress would triumph in both constituencies during the upcoming by-elections.

Siddaramaiah was addressing a large public gathering regarding the by-election for the Davanagere South Assembly seat.

He appealed to voters by recalling the legacy of the late Shamanur Shivashankarappa, a six-time MLA who secured victory four times in this constituency and played a significant role in its development. He encouraged the electorate to support his grandson, Samarth Shamanur, to ensure the continuation of ongoing developmental projects.

The Chief Minister accused the BJP, which has governed the state for nine years, of failing to achieve meaningful development. “Unable to campaign on their own achievements, they have resorted to personal attacks against me. They are targeting me because I have prioritized programs for the underprivileged and marginalized communities,” he stated.

Siddaramaiah emphasized that the Congress party unites people from all communities and does not engage in divisive politics. “We do not participate in the dirty politics of fostering divisions among castes and religions for electoral gains. Organizing communal strife for political advantage is a hallmark of the BJP's strategy,” he claimed.

He further asserted that the expelled BJP leader, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, had accused B.S. Yediyurappa and state President B.Y. Vijayendra of corruption amounting to Rs 25,000 crore. “In light of such serious allegations from their own ranks, Yediyurappa and Vijayendra shamelessly continue their attacks against me,” he remarked.

Siddaramaiah honored the late Shamanur Shivashankarappa and H.Y. Meti as principled leaders and predicted that in the by-elections, necessitated by their passing, the BJP would face defeat while the Congress would emerge victorious in both constituencies.

“We stand before you having fulfilled our commitments. We seek your support based on our development initiatives. We have delivered on all five guarantees we promised. Back us and endorse our efforts,” he urged.

Point of View

It is evident that the political landscape in Karnataka is heating up with personal attacks overshadowing substantive discussions on development. Siddaramaiah's remarks highlight the ongoing tensions between the Congress and BJP, reflecting the broader trends in Indian politics where allegations and counter-allegations often overshadow the core issues.
