Chennai, Oct 27 (NationPress) The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has initiated a fierce critique of the Election Commission of India regarding the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming that this initiative is being exploited by the BJP to alter voter lists for its own benefit.
DMK spokesperson T.K.S. Elangovan stated that the SIR, which is mandated by law to occur every 25 years, has lost its integrity following the “partisan exercise” executed in Bihar.
“Was the SIR in Bihar intended to purify voter rolls? No. It was executed to bolster the BJP,” he asserted.
“Their motive was to eliminate Muslim votes and those supporting the DMK. We will not permit that. The Election Commission has devolved into a subsidiary entity of the BJP,” he claimed.
Elangovan referenced Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s assertion that 30 voters, officially recorded as deceased during the Bihar SIR, were discovered to be alive and photographed.
“We do not oppose the SIR as a procedure, but we stand against the BJP’s electoral apparatus, which the Election Commission has now become. Should any errors occur, we will seek legal action. The BJP's victories are founded on political machinations rather than genuine public backing,” he remarked.
Targeting actor-politician Vijay, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief who visited families of the Karur stampede victims in Mahabalipuram on Monday, Elangovan said, “Even during elections, Vijay aims to replicate this — storing all ballot boxes in his residence and inviting voters to cast their votes there. Voters may come for monetary incentives, but that will not convert into votes. Vijay has already bent the knee to the BJP.”
He proclaimed that any coalition among the AIADMK, TVK, and BJP would only fortify the DMK-led coalition.
“If they unite, that is advantageous for us. The DMK’s alliance will secure over 50 percent of the votes. The BJP is an anti-Tamil party,” he continued.
Regarding the current paddy procurement season, Elangovan dismissed critiques from the Opposition, asserting that the process is running smoothly.
“The state government is taking decisive measures. Officials are overseeing procurement at the district level. The AIADMK and BJP have no valid objections, so they are disseminating falsehoods,” he concluded.
