Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Anand (Gujarat), April 6 (NationPress) A total of six individuals submitted eight nomination papers on Monday for the upcoming by-election in the Umreth Assembly constituency, with the polling date set for April 23 as announced by the Election Commission.
The nomination procedure commenced following a notification issued on March 30.
Officials reported that among those who filed their nomination papers on April 6 are Jiteshkumar Sevak (Independent), Mahendra Parmar (Independent), Bhrugurajsinh Chauhan (Congress), Rajnikumari Chauhan (Congress), Nirupaben Madhu (Independent), and Sunilkumar Bhatt (Right to Recall Party).
In accordance with the Election Commission's regulations, candidates are obliged to include an affidavit in Form-26 together with their nomination papers.
Bhrugurajsinh Chauhan, representing the Congress party, conveyed his optimism regarding victory. Prior to the nomination filing, a gathering titled ‘Vijay Vishwas Sammelan’ took place, where party leaders communicated with their supporters.
During the event, the state Congress president, Amit Chavda, criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that its leaders have become “arrogant and authoritarian due to their power.”
He remarked, “This by-election may not promptly alter the government, but it will undeniably shape the future’s trajectory,” emphasizing that it represents “not just a competition between two candidates, but a battle to amplify the grievances, frustrations, and quest for justice among the people of Gujarat.”
“The commission funds stemming from corruption flow directly to ‘Kamalam’ (BJP office in Gujarat), implicating the entire system,” he accused.
Several senior Congress figures, including Tushar Chaudhary, Bharatsinh Solanki, Jagdish Thakor, and Imran Khedawala, were present during the nomination process, accompanied by party workers and officials from Anand district.
On the other hand, the BJP has nominated Harshad Parmar, the son of the late MLA Govind Parmar, for the by-election triggered by his father’s passing in March.
Harshad Parmar, who has been involved in local governance and has served in the Chikhodara gram panchayat, filed his nomination under the supervision of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other senior leaders.
The BJP aims to retain the seat by relying on his local experience and his father’s political heritage.
