Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gandhinagar/Anand, March 29 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has designated Pradipsinh Jadeja, a former minister of Gujarat, as the in-charge for the upcoming by-election in the Umreth Assembly constituency located in Anand district. This move comes as political fervor heightens with polling set for next month.
In a communiqué released on Sunday, the party confirmed Jadeja's appointment as the constituency in-charge. He is currently a special invitee member of the state party and has previously served as a minister.
Additionally, Hasmukh Patel, a former president of the Anand District Panchayat, has been appointed as the co-in-charge.
These appointments are part of the party's strategic organizational setup for the by-election.
The need for a bypoll in Umreth arose following the passing of the sitting BJP MLA, Govind Parmar, earlier this month.
The Election Commission has slated the polling for April 23, with vote counting happening on May 4. The election notification will be released on March 30, allowing nominations to be submitted until April 6.
Umreth is one of the 182 Assembly constituencies in Gujarat and is categorized as an unreserved seat in Anand district, falling under the Anand Lok Sabha constituency.
This constituency encompasses regions from both Umreth and parts of Anand taluka.
In the previous 2022 Assembly election, Parmar achieved a significant victory for the BJP, winning by over 26,000 votes, showcasing the party's stronghold in this area.
On the other hand, the Congress party has begun its process for selecting a candidate by appointing observers to evaluate potential candidates.
According to party officials, four observers—Natvarsinh Mahida, Chandanji Thakor, Vajirkhan Pathan, and Jagat Shukla—are responsible for interviewing applicants and determining their candidacy suitability.
These observers are currently engaging with aspirants in Umreth as part of the screening procedure, under the guidance of the state party leadership.
With over 2.4 lakh registered voters and more than 300 polling stations anticipated, administrative preparations for the by-election are well underway in line with Election Commission protocols.
This by-election is likely to feature a direct contest among the BJP, Congress, AAP, and NCP (Ajit Pawar), as all parties enhance their organizational and candidate selection processes ahead of the polling date.
