Key Takeaways
Gandhinagar/Anand, April 4 (NationPress) On Saturday, three contenders submitted a total of six nomination papers for the upcoming by-election in Gujarat’s Umreth Assembly constituency, marking a significant step in the electoral process as voters prepare for polling on April 23.
The election authorities reported that nominations were filed on April 4, following the official notification released on March 30.
The individuals who presented their nomination papers include Maulikkumar Shah from the Bharatiya Janata Dal, alongside Harshad Parmar and Vimalkumar Patel, both representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Officials confirmed that a total of six nomination documents were submitted by these three candidates throughout the day.
“The nomination process is advancing according to the timetable set by the Election Commission, with all necessary procedures being adhered to,” an official statement remarked.
Election authorities noted that enthusiasm for the by-election is considerable, with 42 nomination forms having been gathered by 17 potential candidates.
In line with Election Commission regulations, candidates are required to submit an affidavit in Form-26 along with their nomination forms.
This by-election was prompted by the passing of the sitting BJP MLA, Govind Parmar, on March 6, which has left the seat unoccupied.
Voting will take place using electronic voting machines (EVMs) at more than 300 booths, with the counting of votes slated for May 4.
Earlier on the same day, BJP candidate Harshad Parmar filed his nomination papers in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and senior party officials, highlighting the party’s strategy to solidify support in the area.
Parmar, who is the son of the late MLA and currently serves as a sarpanch, has been nominated by the BJP to maintain the seat, leveraging his community ties and local experience.
Party leaders expressed optimism regarding his candidacy, citing both organizational support and the continuation of leadership in the region.
In contrast, the Congress party has nominated Bhrugurajsinh Chauhan as their candidate for the constituency.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has yet to declare its candidate for the forthcoming by-election.
