Mumbai, March 21 (NationPress) The Vice-President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, articulated on Saturday that the recent convocation represents not merely a celebration of academic success, but a pivotal moment in India's ambition to emerge as a global center for skilled human resources.
He emphasized that, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India has experienced a remarkable transformation in its strategies for skilling and human capital enhancement.
Notable initiatives such as Skill India, the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU), the Skill India Digital Hub, and the establishment of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship have redefined how the nation equips its youth for future challenges.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural convocation of the Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skills University in Mumbai, he addressed the graduates on the critical importance of skill enhancement, employability, and the integration of new technologies.
While congratulating the pioneering batch of graduates, the Vice-President remarked that they are history-makers as the university's first graduating class.
Highlighting India's demographic advantage, Radhakrishnan pointed out that the young population can be a tremendous asset if adequately skilled, while becoming a burden if left without the necessary capabilities.
He urged the graduates to serve as ambassadors of India's talent and potential in their respective workplaces, noting that their commitment and professionalism would bolster India's standing on the global stage.
Reflecting on his previous role as Governor of Maharashtra and other states, he stressed that universities and academic institutions must continually evolve their curricula to address contemporary challenges and align with industry needs.
The Vice-President asserted that degrees hold value only when they facilitate employability and called for increased emphasis on skill development and modern technologies.
He acknowledged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' vision, stating that the state is now competing with top global economies.
Discussing the legacy of Ratan Tata, Vice-President Radhakrishnan underlined the university's significant obligation to narrow the gap between education and job readiness while fostering socially responsible individuals.
He urged that industries must progress alongside a strong sense of social accountability, creating exemplary leaders for the nation.
Additionally, the Vice-President launched the “Say No to Drugs” campaign and visited an exhibition organized by industry partners as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
