Agartala, March 29 (NationPress) The remarkable influence of solar energy in the remote and tribal regions of Tripura has received significant national acknowledgment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spotlighted the state's advancements during his well-known radio broadcast 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday.

In his 132nd episode, the Prime Minister praised the success of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY), noting how solar mini-grids are delivering dependable electricity to tribal communities in the Northeast that had long been overlooked.

In Tripura, particularly within the villages of the Reang tribal community, the implementation of solar power has significantly improved daily living conditions. It allows children to study after dark, enhances mobile connectivity, and fosters social and economic growth.

Sharing these developments, Tripura's Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath listened to the program with local residents from his Assembly constituency in Mohanpur, West Tripura.

Minister Nath, who also oversees the Agriculture portfolio, stressed that solar microgrids are heralding a new era of optimism in remote 'Janajati' (tribal) territories, with Karnaram Para in the Mungiakami Rural Development Block of Khowai district serving as a pioneering example of this transformation.

As per the Minister's report, these solar mini-grids have already provided free electricity to 12,103 families across 347 remote locations in Tripura's mountainous areas.

Moreover, 2,753 households have adopted rooftop solar panels through the PMSGMBY initiative.

The advantages are not restricted to homes alone.

Approximately 7,991 farming families have benefited from solar-powered irrigation pumps, which aid in irrigating nearly 40,000 kani (about 0.33 acres each) of land.

Under the PM DevINE (Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North Eastern Region), electricity has reached 9,725 homes across 247 localities, while the PM-JANMAN (Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan) program has supported 1,703 families in 30 locations.

Highlighting the broader impact, Minister Nath remarked that solar energy is not merely illuminating homes but is also redefining aspirations and livelihoods.

He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for acknowledging Tripura's advancements, calling it a crucial milestone on the state's path to self-sufficiency and sustainable development.

"This transition from darkness to light is more than just electrification; it signifies a new beginning," he stated, adding that Tripura is moving steadily towards a brighter, solar-powered future.
