Chennai, March 1 (IANS) Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, has declared a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh each for the families of four individuals who tragically lost their lives due to electrocution in Inayam Puthenthurai, located in the Kanyakumari district.
The unfortunate incident took place during the annual festivities at St. Antony's Church in Inayam Puthenthurai on Saturday.
The deceased—Vijayan (52), Sobhan (45), Manu (42), and Jestis (35)—were trying to maneuver an iron ladder when they accidentally came into contact with a live electrical wire, leading to their electrocution.
In response to this tragic event, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his heartfelt condolences and announced the compensation from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund to assist the victims' families.
The four individuals were electrocuted while preparing for the festival at St. Antony’s Church in Enayam Puthenthurai, a coastal village in the Kanyakumari district.
The accident occurred as they attempted to clear an iron ladder from a path designated for a ceremonial procession as part of the festival.
The deceased were initially transported to the Kulithurai Government Hospital before being moved to the Asaripallam Government Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Upon learning of the incident, District Collector R. Alagumeena and Superintendent of Police R. Stalin visited the scene.
Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha Member Vijay Vasanth also arrived at the hospital to evaluate the situation, as reported by officials.
