Patna, Feb 26 (NationPress) A chaotic scene emerged in Bihar's Rohtas district during the Maha Shivratri festivities, resulting in minor injuries to several women on Wednesday.

The incident took place at the Godaila Shiv temple, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Dehri Mufassil police station.

An official reported that a significant number of devotees congregated at the temple to present water to Lord Shiva during Maha Shivratri. The excessive crowd pressure caused an iron gate to give way, inciting panic among the attendees.

As people fell on top of one another, numerous individuals sustained injuries, and some women lost consciousness. Police personnel on-site acted promptly to assist the victims and prevent a major disaster.

Local law enforcement and administrative officials quickly arrived at the location to manage the situation. They refuted rumors of a stampede, asserting that order was restored swiftly.

An official noted that the crowd swelled as worshippers hurried towards the temple for a brief darshan. The jostling near the main entrance sparked panic.

“The gate buckled under the pressure, causing individuals to topple over each other. Police swiftly intervened to control the situation,” he stated.

He also mentioned that volunteers from the temple administration provided assistance to the injured, offering water and first aid.

“Approximately half a dozen women suffered minor injuries but recovered within an hour,” he added.

Surya Pratap Singh, SDM of Dehri Rohtas, commented: "As the crowd grew, some women fainted due to the pushing and shoving at the main entrance. The situation has been stabilized, and senior administrative officials are observing the situation closely."

The police and temple management have encouraged devotees to adhere to safety measures during religious events to avert similar occurrences in the future.
