Patna, Feb 27 (NationPress) A heartbreaking incident occurred on the day of Maha Shivratri when five young individuals tragically drowned in the Ganges river at Collectorate Ghat under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Maidan police station on Wednesday evening.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has so far retrieved three bodies, while the search for the two remaining youths continues.
Six young men from Krishna Niwas Lodge—Vishal Kumar, Sachin Kumar, Abhishek Kumar, Rajiv Kumar, Golu Kumar, and Ashish Kumar—were engaged in a game of volleyball along the riverbank.
Three additional individuals, including Rehan and Govinda, who were bathing nearby, joined the game.
During the match, Vishal decided to take a dip in the Ganges and began to drown.
The other six rushed to his aid, but they too were caught in the powerful current. Two individuals chose not to participate in the rescue attempt.
A boatman who witnessed the distressing event threw a bamboo pole, successfully rescuing Ashish and Sachin. The SDRF team was promptly dispatched for rescue operations.

Rehan's father, expressing his shock, stated: "My son had come with his three friends without notifying anyone. Around 9 PM, I received a call that my son had drowned in the Ganges. Patna Deputy Superintendent of Police (Town), Prakash, confirmed the ongoing rescue efforts: "The youths had come to bathe at Collectorate Ghat, out of which five drowned. The SDRF team is persistently searching for the missing individuals. The police are also present at the scene to aid in the operation. Three bodies have been recovered thus far."
