New Delhi, Nov 28 (NationPress) Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Patil urged all states on Friday to adopt water-saving practices to ensure adequate water flow in the Yamuna, as stated by an official.
While presiding over the 9th meeting of the Upper Yamuna Review Committee (UYRC) in Noida on Thursday, Patil addressed critical issues concerning the necessary flow in the Yamuna river for its restoration.
He encouraged all states to positively explore options and requested collaboration among partner states to implement three storage projects within the Yamuna basin, according to a statement.
These initiatives aim to enhance water availability during dry seasons, maintain environmental flow, and mitigate pollution, he emphasized.
Delhi's participation in the meeting was represented by Water Minister Parvesh Verma.
Several topics were addressed regarding the management and regulation of surface water, including the execution of storage projects in the Yamuna basin, the transfer of Rajasthan’s share of Yamuna water, and the inclusion of a representative from NMCG as a member of UYRB.
The Committee expressed satisfaction with the collaborative efforts of Haryana and Rajasthan in implementing a project to supply water to regions facing scarcity.
Attendees included Swatantra Dev Singh, Minister (Jal Shakti) from Uttar Pradesh; Satpal Ji Maharaj, Minister (Irrigation) from Uttarakhand; Suresh Singh Rawat, Minister (Water Resources) from Rajasthan; and Shruti Choudhry, Minister (Irrigation & Water Resources Department) from Haryana.
Senior officials from the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation, along with representatives from CWC, CPCB, CGWB, and six basin states—Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi—were also present during the meeting.
