Supreme Court Issues Warning Against Phishing Scams Mimicking Official Website

New Delhi, Jan 9 (NationPress) The Supreme Court on Thursday released a public advisory concerning a phishing scam after numerous counterfeit websites mimicking the official site of the top court were established and made available online.

The advisory indicated that the fraudsters were requesting personal details and other sensitive information. It cautioned the public against sharing or revealing any personal or confidential data on these counterfeit sites, as doing so would allow the criminals to appropriate the information.

The public advisory issued by the apex court registry urged individuals not to click on or disseminate any links they receive without confirming their legitimacy.

"Please be aware that the Registry of the Supreme Court of India will never request personal information, financial details, or other confidential data. Also, it's important to note that the Supreme Court of India holds the registered domain name www.sci.gov.in. Always hover over the URL to verify its authenticity before clicking," stated the notice issued by Registrar (Technology) H.S. Jaggi.

The advisory emphasized that individuals who fall victim to the phishing scam should change their passwords for online accounts and contact their bank or credit card provider to report any unauthorized access.

"The Registry of the Supreme Court of India is taking the phishing attack seriously and has reported it to law enforcement agencies for investigation and to hold the perpetrators accountable," it added.

Last September, the Supreme Court had to temporarily suspend its YouTube channel after it was compromised and broadcast videos promoting a cryptocurrency created by a US-based firm. Allegedly, the channel was renamed “Ripple” and a video titled "Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC's $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION" was streaming on the hacked channel.

Services on the YouTube channel were restored within hours.
