Kolkata, Aug 17 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, sharply criticized a Trinamool Congress MLA for reportedly reprimanding a government official in a public setting on Sunday.
Adhikari took to the social media platform X to share a video where Trinamool's Pandabeswar MLA, Narendranath Chakraborty, is seen chastising Anupam Khan, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Durgapur Division in West Bengal.
The BJP leader stated, "Members of the Trinamool party believe that government officials deserve no respect. They feel entitled to scold them publicly. During a plantation initiative in the Hetedoba area of the Pandabeswar Assembly constituency, MLA Naren Chakraborty humiliated Anupam Khan in front of fellow officials."
Describing the incident as part of the Trinamool culture, Adhikari accused party leaders and ministers of treating government employees as their "servants."
"The DFO's only mistake was not consulting Naren Babu about the plantation activity beforehand. The MLA reprimanded him for not keeping him in the loop. Naren Babu seems to need to establish his identity by incessantly introducing himself," Adhikari remarked.
"What is even more concerning is that other state officials, including the SDM of Durgapur, were present during this incident, yet none voiced their disapproval of MLA Narenbabu's disrespectful treatment of a Forest Department official," he added.
Adhikari questioned whether it is acceptable for an MLA to insult a government official in such a manner.
The Trinamool MLA was unavailable for comment.
This isn’t the first instance where Adhikari has highlighted such behavior by Trinamool Congress leaders; he previously shared a video showing a relative of a Trinamool leader assaulting a referee during a football match.
Adhikari accused Trinamool leaders of disregarding the rule of law, claiming that violence has become a part of their culture.
