Kolkata, April 15 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Tuesday, launched a sharp critique against CPI(M) regarding the recent Murshidabad violence, asserting that the pressures of the opposition INDIA bloc are hindering it from openly criticizing the Trinamool Congress, despite the tragic deaths of two CPI(M) activists.

Adhikari highlighted the murders of Hargobindo Das and his son Chandan Das in Samserganj, Murshidabad last week, who were identified by CPI(M) state secretary and politburo member Md Salim as dedicated party workers.

The LoP accused the CPI(M) leader of providing false information regarding the events surrounding the deaths of the father and son.

“Salim suggested that the father and son were killed while trying to prevent riots in Murshidabad. However, according to an official complaint filed by Hargobindo Das's widow, they were murdered by a group of miscreants inside their home at 10:30 a.m. on April 12, 2025. Is it feasible that they were trying to avert riots from within their residence? They were not killed due to their political affiliations or rivalry; they were targeted simply because they were named Hargobindo Das and Chandan Das,” the LoP asserted on Tuesday morning.

He also challenged Salim’s failure to disclose the names of the assailants, all of whom are part of a specific religious community, as stated in the complaint by Hargobindo Das’s widow.

“Mr. Salim! As a perceptive individual, you must comprehend my meaning. You are unable to acknowledge the truth publicly due to the constraints of the opposition INDIA bloc, where your party collaborates with the Trinamool Congress. You cannot openly criticize the state government, even though the perpetrators find refuge under the ruling party. Furthermore, you have utilized your religion as a means to navigate electoral challenges in 2019, 2021, and now in 2024, though you faced defeat each time,” the LoP stated on X.

Numerous Hindus were compelled to flee certain areas of Murshidabad after protests against the Waqf Act escalated into violence. They were specifically targeted and had to seek safety in a school after crossing rivers. Their properties were plundered, and several temples were vandalized. Following a directive from the Calcutta High Court, central forces have been deployed in the affected regions after Adhikari petitioned the court.
