Kolkata, Sep 21 (NationPress) The opposition leader in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Sunday, charged the West Bengal Police with unwarrantedly hindering a peaceful rally held by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to mark the centenary of national service.
“I am incredibly appalled and infuriated by the overt oppression taking place in Maheshtala today. The Mamata Police, acting as mere instruments of the tyrannical TMC regime, have disgracefully impeded the peaceful Path Sanchalan (route march) organized by the RSS to honor 100 years of national service,” the opposition leader stated in a Sunday release.
According to him, the police's actions not only attack a patriotic group dedicated to nation-building but also represent a direct violation of our democratic rights and freedom of assembly.
He further asserted that under Mamata Banerjee's oppressive rule, West Bengal has turned into a stronghold of oppression, where Hindu cultural events are stifled, nationalist organizations face obstruction, and criminals roam freely.
“The Police, rather than maintaining law and order, are being weaponized to silence voices of nationalism and unity. Shame on you, Mamata Police,” Adhikari’s statement concluded.
No immediate response was received from the ruling Trinamool Congress or the police administration regarding the incident.
The EWRSS programme on Sunday was notably different in West Bengal this year.
In other states, the primary gathering to celebrate the RSS centenary will occur on Vijaya Dashami. However, in West Bengal, that gathering took place on Mahalaya itself.
"We had intended to organize gatherings in approximately a thousand locations across West Bengal for Mahalaya. Out of these, around three hundred were based in South Bengal, with the remainder spread over Central and North Bengal. We’ve received images and videos from nearly all locations where these gatherings were scheduled," stated Biplab Roy, the RSS leader responsible for publicity, during a media briefing on Sunday.
