Patna, Feb 12 (NationPress) A wave of panic washed over Patna on Thursday as a tailor was reportedly murdered in broad daylight, his throat cut by an assailant who was apprehended within just two hours of the crime.
The shocking event occurred at Bangali Tola Mod near Vivekananda Colony, falling under the Chowk police station jurisdiction, and was recorded by CCTV cameras.
The victim has been identified as Mohammad Raees, who was en route to his shop when he was ambushed around 11 a.m.
Following the attack, unrest spread through the area. Residents promptly informed the police, prompting a team from the Chowk police station to respond to the scene.
Initially thought to have fled, the suspect, Mohammad Ayaz, was later arrested within two hours following the incident.
Confirming the arrest, SDPO-2 of Patna City, Gaurav Kumar, mentioned that the incident arose from a personal family dispute.
“The victim was assaulted by his nephew, Mohammad Ayaz. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, aiding in the identification of the perpetrator. Following instructions from the Patna SSP, a special team was formed, leading to the main suspect's arrest within two hours,” Kumar stated.
The SDPO added that the sharp weapon allegedly used in the murder has been confiscated.
According to the initial account provided by the suspect to the police, the attack was provoked by a family matter.
“In his confession, the accused claimed that the victim had allegedly mistreated his wife. Fueled by this anger, he committed the act. However, this statement is under verification,” Kumar further explained.
The police retrieved the body and transferred it to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
A murder case has been lodged against the suspect. An FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team has been summoned to gather scientific evidence from the crime scene. Investigations are ongoing.
