Ranchi, April 11 (NationPress) In a noteworthy political shift, the former state President of BJP in Jharkhand, Tala Marandi, has officially departed from the party to align himself with the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Friday.
Marandi made his transition to the JMM in the presence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren during an event celebrating the birth anniversary of Hul Kranti heroes Sido and Kanhu in Barhait, located in the Sahibganj district.
During the ceremony, CM Soren welcomed him into the party by draping a JMM sash over his shoulders, alongside senior party figures such as Rajmahal MP Vijay Hansda and MLA Kalpana Soren who were also in attendance.
Previously, Marandi had contested as the BJP candidate for the Rajmahal Lok Sabha constituency in the 2024 general elections, but faced a setback in the polls. Following this defeat, he was reportedly pursuing a ticket for the Assembly elections from the Borio constituency in the Santhal Pargana region. The BJP's decision not to field him ultimately led to his exit from the party.
This is not the first time Marandi has parted ways with the BJP; he has previously served as a BJP MLA for the Borio seat. This marks his second departure from the party.
In 2019, just ahead of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, he had left the BJP to join the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) and contested from Borio on their ticket, although he did not succeed.
On April 10, Marandi submitted his resignation to BJP state President Babulal Marandi, and news of his departure became public the next day.
In his resignation letter, Tala Marandi stated: "I, Tala Marandi, have been a dedicated member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. I am thankful for the opportunities extended to me by the party. However, due to prevailing circumstances, personal reasons, and ideological differences, I have decided to resign from the party’s primary membership and all posts. This decision has been taken after much contemplation and without any bitterness. Kindly accept my resignation and relieve me."
