New Delhi, March 29 (NationPress) Islamic cleric Tauqeer Raza on Saturday criticized fellow cleric Shahabuddin Razvi for deeming Bollywood star Salman Khan’s watch controversy as ‘un-Islamic and anti-Shariat’. He also advised against tarnishing one's own faith.

The chief of Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC), Tauqeer Raza, expressed his frustration during a press conference when questioned about Razvi’s claim that Salman Khan wearing a Ram Mandir watch was contrary to Shariat and ‘haram’ (forbidden) in Islam.

“Who claims it is against Shariat? Which Ulemas are these? You refer to him (Shahabuddin Razvi) as Barelvi; he is from Bahraich, so call him Bahraichi. Don’t disgrace Bareilly. He has no ties to the Markaz or Bareilly,” Raza said angrily.

“He is bringing shame to Bareilly. Applying Shariat to every situation, even how to play cricket or observe fasts? Who is he to dictate all this?” he further expressed.

Maulana Razvi, the National President of All India Muslim Jamaat, had asserted that a Muslim wearing a watch associated with the Ram Temple is not permissible in Islam and urged Salman Khan to abandon such practices and seek forgiveness for the ‘sin’.

In a stern warning to the ‘Bahraichi’ cleric, Tauqeer Raza stated, “You must immediately cease such actions. If you do not correct your path and continue to align with the enemies of Islam, you will face appropriate consequences.”

The uproar regarding Salman’s watch began when the actor was spotted wearing the Ram Temple watch while promoting his upcoming film Sikandar. The watch drew attention and prompted reactions from various groups, including Muslim clerics. The actor also shared a promotional image on Instagram, showcasing the gold dial watch paired with an orange strap.

Maulana Razvi responded, noting that Salman Khan, as a prominent figure with a substantial Muslim following, should avoid actions considered un-Islamic.
