Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD) chief and former Bihar minister Tej Pratap Yadav on Saturday, 20 June alleged a conspiracy to assassinate him and his ailing father, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, filing a police complaint at the Secretariat police station in Patna against his former aide Akash Yadav and several others. The complaint names Akash Yadav, his sister Anushka Yadav, and six other individuals as alleged co-conspirators.

Addressing reporters in Patna on Saturday, Tej Pratap stated that an FIR had been formally registered against Akash Yadav, Anushka Yadav, and six others. He alleged that this group was not only plotting physical harm but also working to damage his public reputation.

'My father, Lalu Prasad, is ill. They are conspiring to kill both my father and me,' Tej Pratap said at the press conference. He also appealed to Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary to ensure adequate security for him and his family.

Background: A Controversy That Preceded the FIR

The dispute has roots in an earlier public controversy involving Tej Pratap and Anushka Yadav. Tej Pratap had previously claimed, publicly, that he was in a relationship with Anushka Yadav despite being married — a statement that triggered significant political and personal fallout. Lalu Prasad Yadav subsequently announced disciplinary action against his elder son and distanced him from RJD party activities.

Notably, Akash Yadav moved first — filing his own complaint at the Patliputra police station in Patna before Tej Pratap lodged his FIR. According to Akash Yadav, Tej Pratap and his associates allegedly attempted to forcibly enter his residence under the pretext of meeting family members. Akash Yadav further alleged that he had received a threatening phone call from a US-based number, with the caller reportedly claiming links to an imprisoned gangster.

Tej Pratap has dismissed these counter-allegations as 'fabricated' and 'politically motivated,' hinting that Akash Yadav may be acting in coordination with his political opponents.
